Become a Flag Placement Volunteer
Flag Placement Volunteers: A pre-registered group of volunteers who walk the grounds of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery and place flags on the headstones of American Veterans.
Flag Placement Volunteers follow the very honorable and strict rules of Flag Etiquette. They will walk the grounds of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery and place flags on the headstones of American Veterans. Minors are welcome to partake in this event, though they will be expected to adhere to respectful behavior: no running, no yelling, and stays with their guardian.
Every flag placement volunteer will receive training and we ask that you take great care of every flag that is placed, and that you pay close attention when these instructions are given. Each volunteer is then assigned to a section of the cemetery before boarding a shuttle from the Mall of America to Fort Snelling National Cemetery. The shuttle will drop volunteers in designated areas to retrieve their flags for flag placement in the section they were assigned.
Please Note: If a flag falls to the ground or is dropped, please hold that flag separately from the rest until it can be inspected by FFFS Staff Members.
